In Wisconsin we are lucky enough to be surrounded by beautiful pine trees of countless varieties and sizes. During our long snow-filled winters the landscape can become quite colorless except for those steadfast and comforting pine trees. Pines remind us that our world will soon turn all shades of green once again. One of my favorite sights in these winter months is the snow settling into the pine needles and branches of our beautiful pines, sometimes creating a color all its own. The Snowy Pine Shawl is an homage to this wintery white shade of mint green mixed with a simple and little pine motif.

The best thing about the Snowy Pine Shawl is that it is rhythmic to knit. It is a triangular shaped shawl knit from the top-down starting at the center. The repetitive sections of the pine motif and stockinette stitch become second nature as you are just adding in more repeats as the stitch count grows. With an increase at the start of the border, the larger pine motifs and the picot bind-off, the shawl finishes with a stunning effect.

A one-color shawl is perfect for simple elegance but using a complimentary or contrasting color for the border would be lovely as well. The Snowy Pine Shawl is a simple and entertaining knit however you choose to make it your own.
