Good old sock knitting is always the best. What a simple, pleasant, portable project for all times. For the ColorRib Socks, I created a color block look with a twist on the rib placement. Starting at the cuff, I love the look of the extended rib that goes beyond the usual length and extends slightly into the color change at the leg. Next, the little pop of color for the heel, the ribbing on the foot, and the unexpected placement of the color change for the toe, it all comes together to make a super fun sock.
The sock is worked from the cuff-down with a traditional heel flap. The pattern is written for double-pointed needles but could easily be worked on a different method like magic loop, if you prefer. The pattern has three sizes, small, medium and large. The medium size in this pattern is my go-to basic sock pattern to fit me!
The ColorRib Socks Kit includes:
* Enough Home Fingering Weight Yarn to make one pair of ColorRib Socks with a full skein of the Main Color and three Contrast Colors of our Home Fingering Weight Nuggets which are 25 grams each.
* The pattern for no additional cost. It comes on a printed card with a Ravelry download code found inside your kit bag.
* 20 small BWC Ring Stitch Markers in assorted colors.
* The kit comes packed in a printed cotton project bag with an illustrated tag by Susan.
* OPTIONAL Kit Add-On: We have another batch of my favorite sock needles, US size 1 / 2.25 mm, six-inch length, set of 4 double-pointed needles from Signature Needle Arts.
We have four curated ColorRib Socks Kits from which to choose. They are all just beautiful. As a quick side note, the Home Fingering Weight yarn is such a great sock yarn. It is soft, delightfully bouncy and it makes the knitting and wearing of your socks a pure joy. I hope you try it sometime, I guarantee you’ll love it.
The sample socks in the photos are knit in the following colorways of Home Fingering:
Main Color - leg and foot: Peony (rosy pink)
Contrast Color 1 - cuff: James (the lightest peach)
Contrast Color 2 - heel flap: Snowy Pine (icy mint green)
Contrast Color 3 - toe: Wild Grass (chartreuse)
Sizes
Small (medium, large)
Finished measurement
7 (8, 9) -inches in circumference.
Selecting Your Sock Size
The size selected should be about an inch smaller than the actual measurement at the ball of the foot. This will make the sock snug-fitting and not baggy.
Size example: My foot, at the ball of the foot, measures 9-inches in circumference so I make the medium-size sock which measures 8-inches in circumference.
Helpful Size Notes:
For reference, I use the medium size to fit my US women’s shoe size 7.5 feet. I wear a 38 in European sizes.
Other Useful Ideas: I use the size large for men’s socks to fit my sons’ US men’s shoe size 11 feet.
For sport weight socks, I use the size small instructions with a US size 2 needle to fit my feet.
