Do you remember when I said that from the moment I saw the Pressed Flowers Shawl I knew I had to knit it? The same thing happened when I saw the brand new Pressed Flowers Hat pattern by Amy Christoffers. When I made the shawl I fell in love with the mosaic knitting, where you only use one color at a time but it looks like more complicated colorwork. The same is true for the hat only it's even better to make it in the round! The stitch pattern is rhythmic and fun to do, and simple to figure out. And you end up with a gorgeous textured fabric with flowers and speckles. It is beautiful!
Amy recommends our sweet Woolens yarn for making the hat, so of course, I dove in immediately. I wanted a strong color contrast for the sample hat in the photos. For the main color, I used the Loch colorway, a deep teal, which looks good on everyone in my opinion, and for the contrast color, I used my favorite Belle colorway, a heathered deep rose pink, which makes the flowers pop! It's perfection.
For the other two kit colorway options, there are three in total, both use Loam, a dark heathered gray, for the main color. The other two contrast color choices are Thulian, which is a heathered dusty coral, and Poundcake, which is a sweet buttery yellow. I love the bold sample colorway, and the other options are a little softer and just as lovely. I am casting on at least one more version right away. I think the Pressed Flowers Hat will make great gifts for the upcoming holiday season. I really can’t stop thinking about making one with the sweet little yellow flowers.
The charted hat pattern includes one size, which Amy says, will fit most people. As you can see it fits my daughter in the photos, I’ve tried it on and it fits me perfectly. One thing I want to note, if you don’t prefer a slouchy style hat you can simply turn the brim up, or shorten the brim, to make a fitted hat. It works both ways. I used the recommended needle sizes, US 3 and US 5, to get the required gauge.
I added a small speckled pom to the top of the hat, holding both colors together. But we have a great faux fur pom offer to go with the kit so don’t miss that!
