Here is a note from Thea about her new Milk Punch Hat:
"Milk Punch features a striking, but simple diagonal pattern, knit in a creamy white to really show off the texture and give the hat a classic feel. Magpie Fibers Nest Worsted has the perfect amount of memory for a hat and some fantastic stitch definition. If you have a skein laying around or have been wanting to give Nest a try, it’s a great choice for this design.
The zig zags here are a fun and easily memorized motif to work, involving only knit and purl stitches, which move across the fabric every two rounds.
I designed Milk Punch to include a touch more length than a fitted beanie. It has just enough extra room to subtly bunch at the crown instead of laying flat and round on your head, which for me, gives the hat a modern feel. I love how it seems both updated and classic at the same time, and that the motif isn’t something you see every day.
Pattern has both charted and written motif instructions.
Notes are also included on how to modify the hat for size if needed."
Me again! Our lovely Molly (Evan’s wife) modeled for us for this project. The hat looks terrific on her and she loves it. I did modify the hat slightly.
Here is what I did to modify:
* I used the size hat that casts on 96 stitches to start.
* I used US size 6 needles for the entire hat.
* I worked the ribbed brim for 6-inches instead of the 3-inches called for in the pattern. There is plenty of yarn in the kit to do this.
* For the body of the hat, I repeated the chart two times and then I worked the first two rows one more time before the decrease section.
The result? Perfection! I am very particular about the fit of my hats. I like a deeper brim and plenty of room in the body/top of the hat. Most hats I make with a folded brim measure about 10-inches from the cast on edge before the decrease section at the top of the hat. That’s basically what I did here.
The pattern is great as is. Thea knows what she’s doing. I just wanted to share my take. The hat pattern includes instructions for four sizes.

* For an additional $2.00 you can add a Luxe Snap-On Pom to your kit! This is a total steal. These are new colors, too. The poms come with the bottom piece of the snap attached. Unsnap that piece and sew it to the top of the hat at the gathered hole. You instantly have a super-cute pom that snaps on or off, and that stays in place. If you have more than one pom they can be switched out at any time.
* A set of 10 pin stitch markers in a variety of colors.
* It all comes packed in our printed canvas project bag with an illustrated tag by Susan.
