I’m a big fan of Charlotte Stone of Stone Knits. She is an amazing colorwork sock designer and I have been honored to write blurbs touting her talents on the backs of both of her books, Charming Colorwork Socks, and Joyful Colorwork Socks. Charlotte has also told me that she learned to knit socks from me. That’s pretty cool that she took my simple sock pattern and has turned it into a sock-knitting empire. I love that.
I recently finished a pair of her Under the Quilt Socks. I love quilt-inspired clothes of all sorts and once I started knitting these quilty socks I couldn’t put them down. What fun. The pattern is so well-written, the chart is very simple without any long floats, and the finished socks are just lovely. I thought you might like to knit some socks like mine, too.
One thing you may have noticed is that Charlotte used two contrasting colors and switched them for each sock. I can’t tell you how entertaining this was to me. You should try it. It makes the second sock go so fast, like you are starting a new pair. No second sock syndrome with the Under the Quilt Socks.
I hope you’ll jump in and curl up with this new sock kit using our bouncy 100% American wool, Home Fingering Weight. Thank you to Charlotte for giving us permission to create a kit around her lovely pattern.
One last note, if you haven’t knit socks with 100% wool I highly recommend trying it. My socks knit in Home Fingering Weight are my favorite socks. They pull on easily, they wear so heartily, plus they squish and hug your feet which feels fantastic. I wear my handknit wool socks on my daily walks and hikes and they are the best. The 100% wool works best for colorwork knitting, too. And the washing is no problem, takes only a minute to soak and lay flat to dry.
